Even though according to most recent research there was no television in the olden days, the days when men were brave and women were beautifull (as in the movie '10.000 BC', in cinema's shortly. Wait for the review)it doesn't stretch the imagination too far to picture cavemen and -women enjoying some diverting entertainment. Like a story told at the campfire, or a particularly exciting series of cave drawings. Who knows? Maybe all those pictures of deer, bears, mammoths et cetera were the equivalent of modern day cartoon network.
Anyway, although most meals are easily exchanged with a healthy cavemen-approved equivalent, there are some area's that require a bit more creative thinking on the part of the would-be-cavemen (and -women). As Cornell wrote some posts back, snacks is one of those area's. And I woud add: pizza. You should know pizza is great when you watch a movie, or if you have guests watching a movie with you, or two or three movies (Which I don't get to do that often, but I did last friday with my younger brother).
So what can you do when you want something to eat with your movie, and you don't want to spend time in the kitchen?
Easy: You make a TV buffet.
We took a cucumber in long strips, cherry tomatoes, snack paprika's, green olives with pesto, slices of servelaat-sausage (salami-esque, see last post), and cubes of gouda cheese. We put it all on the table in some containers, and had our dinner watching 'Pan's Labyrinth'.
mmmmmm ....
Next time I think I will add some kind of a dip to go with the cucumber.
The snacks Cornell described would also go well with this, I think.

Vegetables are friends... and food
Today I thought I'd change my habits for breakfast. Up till now on the paleodiet I broke my fast with fruit. Lots of fruit. And banana's. But as Cornell explained to me: banana's will actually increase your glycemic index just as grains do. So banana's should be eaten in moderation.
In order to create more diversity in my breakfasting habits, this morning I had two little snack-cucumbers, five cherry tomatoes (1 kilocalorie each...), approximately 150 grams of carrots and a 125 of strawberries (not all fruit is bad), combined with some nuts. Tasted good, but the cucumber has relatively little taste to it and the cherrytomato is maybe a bit sharp. Anyway, I had also bought snack bellpeppers (paprika) to add to my breakfast, but I forgot them. So I'll add those tomorrow.
Together with carrots and chicken for lunch and so called steam-vegetables for fish (from the supermarket) for dinner, today I had only 700 kcal.
Yesterday I had a bit more calories, as I had a delicious piece of salmon with my dinner. But 1100 kcal is still less than the 2500 adviced for men, so I don't worry a lot.
In the mean time, remember: vegetables are friends, and food...

CuCuCuCucumber
Today I'm compensating in advance for two birthdayparties I will attend this weekend, so not a lot of calories...
Breakfast: 200 gram of cherries, one banana, two tangerines.
Coffee: a dried fig.
Lunch: 300 grams of carrots, and 100 gram of 'schouderham'. (don't know the english translation. Delicious meat).
In between: two apples, as usual.
Dinner: Salad of a cucumber in slices, 200 grams of cherrytomatoes in halves and some dressing. I make this salad more often, very good. The cucumber is really fresh and the tomatoes are a bit more sharp.
Complete with a rice cracker later on the evening: 650 kilocalories.
I've bought a pineapple for tomorrow: yum!
